Michael O’Neill is a contemporary painter whose work explores colour, form and symbolism through large-scale still life paintings.
Working primarily in acrylic, his paintings feature bold depictions of Horus, Thoth and other ancient deities set against vibrant, foliage-rich backdrops. Built through expressive, painterly brushwork and vivid colour relationships, his work balances structure with spontaneity, drawing together classical still life traditions with a distinctly contemporary energy.
While working professionally in the world of technology sales, he has cultivated a rigorous studio practice through sustained study at the Newlyn School of Art, completing both the year-long Figure and Defining Practice programmes, and is currently deepening his practice through the school’s year-long Studio Practice course.
His work reflects an ongoing exploration of observation, symbolism and painterly expression, using still life as a space for both technical enquiry and creative experimentation.
